His wife, Giuseppina Rotello, remained in Italy.

He died in the town of Southeast in Putnam county, but not within the village of Brewster.

He was killed when a bolt of lightning struck the shack he shared with other Italian laborers. He is most likely buried with the three other men who were killed in this storm. The newspaper article (Danbury News-Times, Sep 15, 1890) identifies them as Bruno Dertucci, Umberto Desontis, and Nicala Bolhzza - my best guess for the correct spellings are Bruno Bertucci, Umberto DeSantis, and Nicola Bolazza.
