Mrs. Barteldes died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 9, 1915, in Augusta, the daughter of Roy A. and Sarah Haines. She graduated from Kansas University in 1937 with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and was the KU beauty queen in 1936.
Mrs. Barteldes was a homemaker and former volunteer at the LMH gift shop. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood and Ventura Club.
She married Ben A. Barteldes on Dec. 29, 1936. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Bart Barteldes, Perry, and Chris Barteldes, Lawrence; and five grandchildren
