A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday. Dec. 27, 1994. at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, for Albert C. Cruz Sr., of Roswell, who passed away Dec. 23, 1994, at a local hospital. Melvin Salcido of the Church On The Move will officiate.
The Mass of Resurrection will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 1994 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with a Franciscan friar officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Albert was born April 7, 1931, in Oaxaca, Mexico, to Tomas and Carmen Chavez. His parents preceded him in death, as did a son, Albert Cruz Jr.
He married Mary Doblado on June 18, 1994. in Roswell. She survives him at the family home.
Other survivors include one son, Faustino Cruz, and his wife, Julie, of Roswell; and four daughters, Carmen Cruz Young, and her husband, Tim, Marcella Pauline Cruz Rocha, and her husband, Andy, and Helen Cruz, all of Roswell. and Mary C. Welch, and husband, Stratton, of Houston, Texas.
Three stepchildren also survive him, Charlie Alday, of Dallas Texas, and Loretta Alday and Melissa Alday, both of El Paso, Texas. Also surviving are two brothers, Celestino Chavez, of Oaxaca, Mexico, and Simon Zuniga, of Guadalara, Jalisco; and two sisters, Tayde Chavez Aguirre, and Maria Guerrero, both of Mexico City, Mexico.
Mr. Cruz had been a Roswell resident since 1952, and was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He had been the owner of A-1 TV & Sales and A-1 Furniture from 1970-1994. He had been a professional boxer, and was a member of the New Mexico State Police Mounted Patrol from 1974-1990. He was a veteran in the Mexican Navy.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Alday, David Cruz, Pete Cruz. Andy Dominguez, Mario Dominguez and Tim Young. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cecil Dowdy and Raymond Garcia. Family will received friends at 605 W. Mathews after the graveside services. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
