Presbyterian Minister.

Son of Rev. William H. and Hannah E. (Van Sant) Townsend.

He taught in Pennsylvania 1871-1879, and in Kansaa 1879-1881. He was a student at Park College, Missouri 1881-1882; graduated Auburn Theological Seminary, New York, 1885; and received his Doctorate in Divinty from Midland Univeristy in 1908.

He was ordained at Alton Presbyterian Church in Staunton, Illinois on September 30, 1885, and served various congregations in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Ohio.

He was married to Rebekah Eliza Jacke in Lawrence, Kansas, on June 14, 1887, and they raised a family of three sons and two daughters. Rebekah died in 1910.

He was married secondly on July 28, 1915 to Anna Crum Campbell, who survived him.
