Zelda moved to Idaho Springs, Colorado from Arkansas in 1907. She attended school at Grass Valley, Clear Creek County and moved to Silver Plume, Colorado in 1910.

On Dec 26, 1915 she and Leon "Leo" Poirson were joined in marriage. To this union 2 children, Swiff and Nettie Lee were born.

After the death of Leon, she married Fenimore W Buxton on April 2, 1921. To this union, two sons were born, George W and Joseph W.

After the death of Fenimore, she moved to Denver and worked at the Modification Center during WWII. She married William Harvey Smith in Denver. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron.
