Tommie Hancock was born Apr 11, 1813 in Georgia. He was raised there, attended school, and married Bethany Weldon in Pike County Dec 28, 1836.

By the time of the Civil War the Hancocks lived in Leake County Mississippi where Tommie served in the Confederate army. It was in Mississippi that the family became close and life long friends with the McCarty family. As conditions deteriorated in northern Mississippi the families fled to Texas landing eventually in Hill and Bosque Counties.

By 1873 a few of the Hancock children had ventured north into the Chickasaw Nation just east of Spanish Fort. Tommie and Bethany and the others joined them in 1874/75.

Tommie and Bethany lived on the Chickasaw Nation on the high hill above Red River where they ran the ferry across Red River near Boat Holler. The community today is known as Petersburg.

August 28, 1881, Tommie died at his home in the Chickasaw Nation from a heart attack at the age of 68. He is buried beside his wife Bethany at Spanish Fort.
