Calvin C. Abbott, 78, of Chetek died Feb. 27 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. Funeral services with military honors are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek. Visitation is Saturday at the funeral home before the service. Burial is at Lake View Cemetery in Chetek

Mr. Abbott was born Aug. 22, 1926 to John and Delpha (Barnhouse) Abbott. He married Cecelia Isaacson on May 4, 1963 in Chetek. He graduated from high school in Corning, Iowa. He then worked for several area farmers and later for Blue Star Food in Atlantic, Iowa. He served 18 months with the Army in Japan from 1954-1956. He retired in October 1985 after 31 1/2 years of service for the USDA. He also ushered at County Stadium ballpark for many years. The Abbotts were foster parents for 43 children in Milwaukee County. In October 1987, he bought the E & L Bar in Weyerhaeuser and renamed it The Old Coot Inn. He sold the business in 1994 and moved to Chetek. He enjoyed playing pool and cribbage.

He is survived by his wife, Cecelia; two daughters, Cherri and Jeanette, both of Chetek; a son, John of Chetek; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Abbott of Nodaway, Iowa.
