Byrnes, age 79, of Reedsburg, died on Friday, March 11, 2005, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 7, 1925, in Winfield Township, Sauk County, the son of Patrick and Mary (Clippert) Byrnes. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. After returning home he married Joyce Schara at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Baraboo, on Sept. 7, 1946. Don was a member of the DAV in Baraboo, the 40 & 8 and American Legion in Plain, VFW Post 1916 of Reedsburg and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Reedsburg; children, Diane (Dennis Tuff) Kaufman of Reedsburg, Donna (Jim) Pfaff of Rock Springs and James (LuAnn) Byrnes of LaValle; seven grandchildren, Brenda Kaufman of Reedsburg, Scott (Abbie) Kaufman of Baraboo, Tammy (John) Deering of North Freedom, Becky (Todd) Vondran of Rock Springs, JT Pfaff of Rock Springs, Sue (Kevin) Reich of Reedsburg and Tracey (Chad) Davis of Reedsburg; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard (Virginia) Byrnes of Waunakee and Patrick (Sandy) Byrnes of Milwaukee; sisters, Bernice (Norbert) Fike of Beloit, Maureen (John) Chekouras of Beloit and Patricia (Russ) Hale of Reedsburg; sister-in-law, Mary (Bob) Peiffer of Tomahawk; and nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, James and Raymond; and a sister, Kathleen. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. in SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH with Father Thomas Monaghan officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military rites being accorded by the VFW Post 1916 of Reedsburg. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the FARBER FUNERAL HOME. A scripture service will be prayed at 4 p.m. Donald requested that memorials of remembrance be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in lieu of flowers.
