The two-year-old destroyer, Bristol, which was sunk in the Mediterranean, Wednesday, was the ship on which Clarence Pichaver, first West Chester service man to die in action during World War II, died on April 8 (sic) 1941.

Pickhaver, foster-son of councilman and Mrs. R. S. Himelright, was a member of the first crew put aboard the Bristol. He died at sea, following an attack of appendicitis, while the Bristol was on patrol duty in the North Atlantic.

The Bristol was sunk by underwater explosions, presumably caused by mines.
