Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret Pinion Abels; two sons, Richard, Christopher, along with his grandchildren, Jay, Erica, Charley and Carmen . He is also survived by his sister, Susan ; brothers, Thomas , Harold, and Mark , as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents, Wilson and Elizabeth Abels; grandparents, A.R. and Ruby Abels, Alden and Bernadette McIntyre; siblings, Wilson Alden Abels and Karen Ruby Abels.
