Son of John Hennessey Saul [born in Ireland] and Rosina M Lawley Saul [born in England].

On December 1, 1892, at the age of 19, B Francis Saul created the Saul Company. His father, John Saul, had been the first Chairman of Washington DC's Parks commission, the forerunner of the Park and Planning Commission for the city. For many years, John Saul had maintained two botanical nurseries in DC. By 1892, when DC had expanded out to these nurseries, B F Saul founded the Saul Compnay real estate business to facilitate their sale. He was immensely successful in ensuring the growth of the B F Saul Company as a mortgage bank and developer. In 1899, once the B F Saul Company had become established in DC real estate, B F Saul started the Home Savings Bank, It quickly developed as the leading retail bank in DC. In 1919, he merged it with the American Security and Trust Company. In 1969 B F Saul II founded Chevy Chase Bank. Today, Chevy Chase Bank has assets of 14 billion and is the area's largest bank.
