David Eugene Vandiver, 54, of Boston, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his residence. He was a native of Nelson County, a retired deputy jailer for Hardin County Detention Center in Elizabethtown. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a Catholic by faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Gene Vandiver; his aunts, Mae Allice Vittitow and Libby Dugan and an uncle, Johnny Dugan.
Survivors include his wife, the former Patricia Riggs; three sons, Michael Conner, of Louisville, Benjamin (Stafani) Yates, of Owensboro, and Richard Day, of Boston; a daughter, Amanda (Mike Skees) Humphrey, of Boston; and four grandchildren, Savannah, Jake, Bel and Norrin.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Kappel Funeral Home, Boston Chapel, in Boston, with burial in Little Brick Cemetery in Boston. Chaplain Terry Troutman will officiate.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, and 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the funeral home.
