William ‘Bill' Joseph Aberle
March 15, 1932 – Feb. 16, 2005
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel for William "Bill" Joseph Aberle, 72, who passed away in Bakersfield on Feb. 16.
Bill was born on March 15, 1932 in Chino to John and Mary Aberle. He was raised and educated in the Chino area before joining the the U.S. Air Force, where he served from 1950 through 1954. He served for a time in the Reserves before enlisting in the Navy, doing duty from 1956 through 1957. Upon returning to civilian life, he joined the Operating Engineers Union, working in surveying.
Bill lived in the Santa Paula area from 1963 through 1986. There he was involved with the Oxnard REACT Team and served as president of the Santa Paula REACT Team. He was also a member of the Santa Paula Coin Club.
Upon moving to Tehachapi in September of 1986, Bill left his mark as a remarkable photographer. He will be remembered by many in this area scurrying around the Tehachapi area, camera in hand. He enjoyed his hobby, sometimes his profession, and at his passing left over 54,000 photos.
He gained acclaim for his photos and served as a photo team member to distant lands such a Zambia, Kenya, East Africa, Newfoundland, Ireland and Russia. His photographs are now hanging in Kelcy's restaurant, Tehachapi City Council Chambers, Bank of the West and have been made into four postcards.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Caren Laulainen and husband Warren of Camarillo; grandson, James Michael Aberle II of San Dimas; granddaughters, Christine and Sarah Laulainen of Camarillo; brother, Daneil Aberle of Mira Loma; sister, Susie Hopkins of Walnut; niece, Patricia O'Brien; six other nieces and three other nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John Stephen Aberle II, and his brother, Paul Aberle.
Reverend Tom Allred will officiate at the service. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Tehachapi Post 5948 will serve as Honor Guard. Interment will be at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside.
Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
