The son of Manasseh & Sarah (Loy) Dromgold, in 1860, he was a farmer living with the John Dromgold family in Saville Township, Perry County, although his mother (sans husband) was living in Tyrone Township. Two years later, he gave his occupation as carpenter and Harrisburg as his residence. He stood 5' 7" tall and had dark hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Loysville, Perry County, August 8, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 13 as a private with Co. H, 133rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 25, 1863. He also enlisted in Harrisburg September 1, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 2 as a private with Co. G, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), and honorably discharged by general order May 29, 1865. He is on the 9th Pa Cav roster as "Drumgold."

He married Anna Rebecca Cunningham and fathered Martha May (b. 06/16/71), Amelia Pearl (b. 01/08/73), Bessie Maude (b. 03/11/75), Elizabeth Wingard (b. 04/06/76), Lewis Turbett (b. 06/10/78), and Thomas Roy (b. 12/28/84). His death certificate lists his name as "Thomas Michael," but his military records all use "Michael T.", and he is clearly buried that way.
