Army Spc. Disney was assigned to the 7th Transportation Battalion, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Disney was working with a cutting torch to remove a large piece of equipment from a wall when it came loose and fell on his chest at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. Jason was a 1999 graduate of Churchill County High School in Churchill, Nevada. During his freshman year, he enrolled in the school's Naval Junior ROTC program but didn't stay. He had problems both academically and behaviorally and needed a little bit of discipline and counseling. But during his senior year, a change began happening to Jason; he became more polite to people. He is the father of a 3-year-old boy and decided to join the military to provide a better life for his son. In 2001 he returned to the high school in his Army uniform for a visit and everyone could see what a change the military had made. He had straightened out his life, apologized for being a jerk in class and said he wished he'd paid more attention when he was there. Jason's fellow soldiers remember him as a gung-ho soldier who was a good friend and prankster. He liked to party, watch movies and listen to heavy metal music. He was outspoken but had a good sense of humor. He had only been in the Afghanistan theater for four months but had planned to re-enlist. During Jason's funeral, Army Spec. Jerry Keener Jr., his brother in law, said this, "Someone once told me freedom is paid for with the blood of the men and women willing to fight for it. If you want to really honor him, go out and enjoy your freedom today, because it's paid for."
