As a teenager she worked for the Johnson family keeping house. She is the mother of Perry Alvin Kistler, Sr. She married Calvin Kendall on May 21, 1887 in Allen County, Indiana. She would have three more children in this marriage: Luella Kendall, Clarence Kendall and Rosa Virginia Kendall. Julia would become sick along with her youngest child Rosa with an unknown disease, possibly scarlet fever and she would die the day after Christmas. Her husband Calvin unable to take care of the children after Julia's death, placed them in an orphanage in Fort Wayne and left for Michigan. Her son Perry would live with his grandparents: Michael and Esther Kistler until he left to join the U. S. Navy.
