Dr. Jake L. Krider, 91, of 1028 Hillcrest Drive, Chillicothe, Ill, formerly of West Lafayette, Ind died Juen 23, 2005 at 6:30 a.m. at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
Jake was born on December 12, 1913, in Lewistown Twp., in Fulton County, the son of Reuben E and Bessie Beadles Krider. He married Lena Louise Strode on August 3, 1936 in Waukegan, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2000.
Jake is survived by one brother, Kenneth (and Jo) Krider of Chillicothe, IL; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Jake was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Jake graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree; and from Cornell University in New York with a Doctorate in Philosphy. He was a Professor and Department Head of Animal Sciences at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., He retired in 1979 from Purdue as Professor Emeritus.
Jake was a member of 1961 Vice President of the Soybean Council of America, Rome and Italy; 1968 President of the American Society of Animal Science; 1968-1973 he worked as a consultant with the US Drug Administration, Bureau of Veterinary Medicine, and a member of the Advisory Committee; 1970-1971 he was a member of the US Drug and Food Administration Task Force on Antibiotics in Animal Production; He wrote the 5th Revised Edition of the Swine Production Book, (Published in 1982); President's Council at Purdue University; Agriculture Dean's Club at Purdue University; University of Illinois Alumni Association; Lewistown Community High School Alumni Association; Lewistown FFA Life Honorary Member, Charter President; Several Fraternities; Farmhouse Fraternity, Alpha Zeta, Alpha Tau Alpha, Gamma Sigma Delta, and Sigma XI. Jake was a member of the First Unied Methodist Church in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Furneral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home. Rev. Raymond Harrison and Rev. Larry Wright (nephew) will officiate. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Department of Animal Science-LouJa Awards, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907.
