Frank Williford Smith, 86, of 716 W. Bear Swamp Road, died Wednesday morning, April 5, 2006, in his home.

Born in Perquimans County, he was the son of the late George William and Mary Mansfield Smith. He retired as a welder with Newport News Shipyard and was a member of Great Hope Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include two sisters, Myrtle Smith of Hertford and Peanie Lee of Norfolk; and a brother, Elmer Smith of Newport News; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Bessie Harrell and four brothers, Josey Smith, Vernon Smith, Charlie Smith and Norman Smith.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
