Harlan W. Clutter, 92, of Claysville, (Good Intent), died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2013, in Southmont Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, after being in failing health for the past five years.

He was born January 5, 1921, in East Finley Township, Washington County, a son of the late Charles Bentley and Viola Belle Phillips Clutter.

Mr. Clutter had resided in the West Finley Township area most of his life and in the Good Intent area since 1959.

He was a member of Windy Gap Presbyterian Church in West Finley.

Mr. Clutter was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army as a tech 5 with Company K, 133rd infantry regiment, 34th infantry division. He was awarded a combat infantry badge, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars.

He was a 46-year member of Claysville American Legion Post 639 and a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Clutter was employed as a mechanic with Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. for 42 years, prior to retiring in 1983, and was a member of the former Quarter Century Club of Columbia Gas.

He enjoyed hunting and bowling with the gas company and was an avid golfer, as long as his health permitted.

On April 30, 1947, he married Faye Geraldine Hixson, who died April 15, 1997.

Surviving are two sons, Randall H. Clutter of Good Intent and Danny, husband of Dora Clutter of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Ellen Kukla of Lake Forest, Calif.; five grandchildren, Charlene, Rhonda and Jordon Clutter, Danny Clutter Jr. and Debbie Kukla; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Althea King and Joann Bruno, both of West Alexander; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are six brothers, William (who died at birth), Herbert, Donald, Wayne, Reed and Lemoyne Clutter; and two sisters, Mildred Hughes and Norma Jean King.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Windy Gap Presbyterian Church at West Finley, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, with the Rev. James R. Sevon Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in West Finley Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Claysville American Legion Post 639 and representatives of the U.S. Army. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Windy Gap Presbyterian Church, 132 Burnsville Ridge Road, West Finley.
