Conrad Sztuka was born on 17 July 1920 in Cieszyn (parents, Marian - State Police officer, and Marianna nee Hanzlik - a teacher manual work). He attended schools in his hometown. As a teenager he joined the Teschen IV Fellowship of Scouting to them. John Kilinski. As a high school student also completed a glider pilot courses at the school at the top of Chelm Loppa in Goleszów and Tęgoborzu in Malopolska, obtaining successively categories "A", "B", "C" and "D".
In summer 1939, was assigned to the school in Aleksandrowice Loppa near Bielsko, where he was to begin training on light aircraft travel. There, she found it a war. Did not participate in the September campaign as a soldier. He failed to evacuate the Polish, but it was in the Soviet Union and went to one of the Soviet labor camps, where for the next month performing slave labor.
After the amnesty, which effect the signing of the Sikorski-Maisky, was released from the gulag and 24 December 1941 reported on the draft board of the Polish Army in Kołtubance. In August 1942, the troops passed by General Wladyslaw Anders to Iran and then to Iraq. As a person with initial training for airlines was sent by sea to Britain, the aim of training and inclusion in the composition of the Polish Air Force. September 4, 1942, he was already in England. Upon completion of theoretical courses at ACTC centers in Hucknall and 12 ITW in Brighton was sent in May 1943 for the initial pilot schools in 1925 EFTS in Hucknall, and then to the basic flying schools in 16 SFTS in Newton. 23 February 1944 completed the course and received a pilot's badge, then went to one of the centers for school shooters or navigators to practice in the pilot. August 22, 1944 was assigned to Fighter Squadron 303 to them. Tadeusz Kosciuszko, then stationed in Westhampnett. In the final days of the war "Kościuszkowców" rearmed (the only Polish unit) for the Mustangs IV.
