Daughter of James V. and Elizabeth (Snure) Vangilder; sister of William H., Levi S., Reynolds T., James Frank, Lanora C., Charles S., Boaz B., Algenon C., Harry M., Jennie V., and Joshua I.
Matilda's father was a hardware dealer in the 1880 census; the family lived at Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana.
In the 1920 census, Matilda was living at Plymouth, Wayne County, Michigan with her husband, Milburn G. Hill and nephew, Russell H. Vangilder. Russell was the son of Matilda's brother, Boaz Vangilder.
