James was one of eight children born to William Healy and Margaret St George. His parents were both born in Ireland. His father William Healy was born in County Louth and his mother Margaret St George was born in Tipperary. He was a Moulder at the Mason Machine Works which was founded by William Mason. The MMW produced machinery for the textile industry, as well as steam locomotives. He lived his later years at the home of his sister, Margaret Healy Curtin at 55 Grant St, Taunton MA. He lived his final years at a nursing home in Taunton. He died of thyroid cancer, carcinoma of parotid.
