Rita Jean Hayes Anderson, 85, died in her home on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. She was born and raised in Chicago, IL and moved to Memphis when she married. She maintained two homes, one in Memphis, with her family and the other at her beloved Sister Lakes, Michigan, where she shared many memories with her children and grandchildren, lifelong friends and her Chicago family. She retired from The Hutchison School, after serving as Director of Development for many years. In retirement she worked at Crossroads Hospice, where she was named volunteer of the year, and it was Crossroads Hospice who helped make her final days more comfortable. She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Clancy of Chicago, IL, her children, Lori Anderson Johnson (Hank), Bill Anderson (Lisa) and Jan Anderson Anderson (Danny), her beloved of thirty two years, Carl Powers and five grandchildren, Patrick, DJ, Ashton, Hayes and Ryan. She was an active member of the Catholic Church of the Ascension. She was always so proud of her Irish and Jewish heritage and credited that with her excellent health and longevity. This combined heritage instilled in her family the values of faith, family and tradition. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, September 7, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, 3680 Ramil Road, with rosary at 7 pm. A celebration of life Mass will be held Saturday, September 8 at 11 a.m. at Catholic Church of the Ascension. Private burial service will be at Sister Lakes, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Trinity High School, 7574 West Division St., River Forest, IL 60305 or to the Sister Mary Mark Scholarship Endowment Fund at Madonna Learning Center.
