Pfc. Ryan M. Jerabek, 18, of Oneida, Wisconsin, was a 2003 graduate of Pulaski High School, where he was on the track team. Ryan had a strong interest in history and hoped someday to become a history teacher. His exploration of history included walking the Freedom Trail in Boston with his mother and Aunt Pat in November 2001 and a trip to explore his Irish heritage in Ireland with his brother in November 2001. He also had a desire to serve his country and so despite the objections of his father, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July 2003. He had basic training at Camp Pendleton and came home for a leave in October before returning for his Advanced Infantry Training and then came back home on leave before he left for Kuwait. Three weeks later he went to Iraq, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton. Ryan was one of 10 soldiers killed by hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq on April 6. Ryan was planning on just serving his four years and then attending college at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to become a teacher, wishing to eventually teach at his old high school. Ryan loved his country and strived to be the best Marine he could be, wanting to make a difference in the world. He showed maturity beyond his years. He is survived by his parents, Ken and Rita, Oneida; two brothers, Aaron, Milwaukee; and Nicholas at home; maternal grandparents, Alfred and Sarah Clausen, Green Bay; paternal grandparents, Gene and Madlyn Jerabek, Green Bay; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sara. (Bio written by SUE)
