Leonard's family originally settled in the valley in the mid 1880's, where they began farming their ranch of 7,500 acres, until 1989. Shortly there after 5,000 acres of the original ranch were transformed into what is today the major portion of land that makes up Diamond Valley Lake. Leonard was instrumental in the development of the project's beginning, and extremely proud that the ranch that had been in the family for over 100 years, and worked by six generations of farmers, had become something our entire valley and the surrounding communitees could enjoy and benefit from for generations to come.

Along with his wife Joyce, and their four children, Leonard owned and operated the Searl Crop and Cattle Company, Casa Del Sol RV Resort, the De Anza Professional Building, and he was the President and Chairman of the Board of the Joylen Corporation.

He was heavily involved in the development and progress of the Hemet Junior League Basketball, Hemet Youth Baseball, the nursing program of Mt. San Jacinto Community College, and was a past board member of Hemet Federal Savings Bank and Hemet Hospital. he also served our Country from 1945-1947 in the US Army.
