Pvt. Thomas Benton Toms,

Company D. 6th Regiment, Maryland Infantry
Mustered in at Thurmont, Frederick Co., MD., Aug. 20,1862, mustered out June 20 1865.

Thomas Benton Toms, son of the late Abraham and Susan Kiefer Toms, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Roy Stottlemyer, near Bethel, of brain fever, aged 73 years, 11 months and 13 days. Mr. Toms was a veteran of the Civil War. He is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Cora ?, of Hagerstown, and Mrs. Dessie Stottlemyer, of Mt. Zion; also four brothers and two sisters: John H. Toms, of Thurmont; Abraham Toms of near Smithsburg; Michael Toms, of Colorado; Jacob Toms, Mrs. Mahala Lips and Mrs. Anna Hurley, of Kansas. Funeral took place from Mt. Bethel M. E. Church Wednesday morning. Interment was made in the Toms cemetery on the Samuel W. Lewis farm.
