His aunt, Jane Williams Quillian (wife of Rev. Asbury Phillips Quillian) was called the "mother of Methodism" in North Georgia because of the numerous offspring that became local pastors or itinerant preachers. He had a grandfather and a number of uncles and cousins to follow the path of ministry.
He married Georgia Ann Elizabeth Cox on October 9, 1883. There seems to be no record of children. He died at age 25 after just four years of marriage and it appears his wife married again to Isham Teasley, Sr.
