Dorothy was the only daughter born to Lillie Ethel Edrington and Edgar Ransom Ewing.

Dorothy or Dot as she was called by her classmates, was popular in High School. Even though money was tight, she would sew up a new outfit and go to all the dances in the area. She loved to paint and even took lessons. Later her daughter found a book with all the dance tickets and snippets of ribbon and fabric from her new outfits that she had made.

Dorothy met her soon to be husband Virgil Phillips while he worked on her parents ranch in Mackay.

On December 28, 1932, Dorothy and Virgil were married in Salt Lake City, Utah at the home of Virgil's sister Minnie Phillips Singer.

By 1941, Virgil, Dorothy and their 3 children left Mackay and moved to Southern California. They first settled in Santa Monica. While there a fourth child was born in 1946.

While Virgil found work at the Douglas Aircraft plant in Santa Monica as an Oxygraph Operator, Dorothy was busy raising their four children and making a home for them all.

In 1947 Virgil bought a small house in Venice. There they raised their four children, had a small vegetable and flower garden and various small animals.

Sadly, in 1956 Dorothy was diagnosed with breast cancer and lost her battle with the disease shortly after surgery.

Her mother, two brothers, her husband, four children and one grandchild survived her.
