Col. William W. von Hausen (ret) USAF, 83, died January 17, 2013. He was born in Baltimore, MD on February 4, 1929. Bill attended McDonogh School, did two years at Johns Hopkins University, and then entered United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation in 1953, he entered the Air Force as a pilot. After a tour in Japan, Bill returned to AFIT to receive a Master's in Aeronautical Engineering. He was an exchange pilot with the Navy for two years, and then did a tour in Vietnam. Bill worked in Systems Analysis at the Pentagon. His last tour was Defense Attaché with the embassy in Canada. Retiring to Cary, NC, Bill attended NC State for a Master's degree in History.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara; five children, Mark and wife, Robin, David, Jan and husband, John Meachem, Lisa Gatensby, and Jeff; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Bill and Barbara's home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
