Excerpts from Obituary - Thursday, June 12, 1919 - Plymouth Democrat
Rebecca was the daughter of John and Mary A. (Magner) Swisher.....aged 56 years, 2 months and 27 days. The Lord hath given, the Lord hath taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord forever. Amen.
She came to Marshall county to a farm near Plymouth with her mother and step-father in 1882. After the death of her step-father, Jacob Easterday, they came to this city.
On Dec. 31, 1896, she was united in marriage to James F. Vangilder.....She was a life long member of the United Brethren Church, in which communion she was a faithful worker while her health permitted.
Those who knew her will mourn the loss of a kind hearted and sympathizing friend.... charitable and self denying....her home..as it always her greatest delight.
Rest, perfect rest, from all unrest now still
A tender voice says rest, it is the Father's Will.
Peace, perfect peace, from earthly cares set free,
The Savior's voice says, come, thou weary one to me.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev, A. M. Cummins, at the Vangilder home on South Michigan street at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon.
...........................................
She was a sister to William, Charity, Hannah, and John.
