Virginia M. Timmons

Services for Virginia M. Timmons were today at the First Christian Church in Claremore. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.

Virginia passed away on Tues., Jan., 15, 2013. She was 86.

Born in Tulsa, on Dec., 9, 1926 to Orville and Lena (Huss) Spiker, Virginia was reared and educated in her birth community.

She graduated in 1944. After graduation she worked as a switchboard operator and also as a Western Union agent, and then later retiring from Tulsa County Election Board.

On Oct., 23, 1948 Virginia and David W. Timmons married in a Tulsa ceremony. After their wedding the couple worked together on a chicken farm, located at 41st and Sheridan, before beginning their family. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters.

After the birth of their daughters, Virginia became a stay at home mother and was actively involved in all aspects of her daughters' lives. From PTA mom to Girl Scout leader and even playing the role as their seamstress, making dresses or anything else she could for them. Her girls would say, "She gave up things just so she could provide for us." She became their encourager, role model and friend.

Some of her favorite pastimes included involvement with the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, playing bunco, dancing and large extended family gatherings. Before her children were born, Virginia could be seen with David at the local dance where she loved to waltz and swing.

As referred to by her family, this "angel without wings" will be missed by all who knew her.

Virginia is survived by her daughters; Sondra Stacy of Boise, ID, Judith Brown and husband Pat of Claremore, Diana Riley and husband Michael of Tonkawa, and Linda Whitfield and husband Max Rexroad of Tulsa; grandchildren, David Stacy and wife Shelsie, Mark Stacy, Robert Brown and wife Nichole, Dawna Church and husband Danny, Shawn Riley and wife Dyan, Traci Looney, Brandi White and husband Glenn, and Misti Whitefield; 17 great grandchildren; brothers, Virgil Spiker, Orville Spiker and wife Klorene, and Larry Spiker and wife Marilyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband David of 29 years.
