Elizabeth (Harrold) Mason died a few weeks after last son Jonas E Mason was born. I have more photos of Lewis Mason if anyone in the family tree wants copies of them. After the death of his wife Anna, Lewis Mason continued to live with her sisters as a boarder in a Butte, Montana boardinghouse, and remained fast friends with all of them for the remainder of his life. The younger children began calling him 'Uncle Lew'.

IN. page 219: "A solder in the war of the Rebellion, Sylvanus Mason became a member of the 130th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry, on the 5th day of Dec 1863, serving until the close of the war. He removed from Highland Co. OH to Wells Co. Indiana in the year 1847. In 1853 he removed from Huntington County, Indiana, returning to Wells Co. in 1856. A former marriage was to Elizabeth L. Harold. She was the mother of Joshua L. Mason born Aug 16, 1856; George A. Mason born Nov 13, 1857; Henry J. Mason born May 30, 1859; Lewis McC Mason born December 1, 1860; Mary Jane Mason born Jan 17, 1867, Bruce A. Mason born Dec 10, 1870; Jonas E. Mason born May 17, 1876. On the 31st day of August 1878, in Huntington Co. IN, Mr. Mason was married to Margaret (Weaver) Carl, daughter of Joseph and Lavinia (Snyder) Weaver. Her children by a former marriage are: Minnie Belle Carl born August 26, 1869; George Carl born June 25, 1873. Sylvanus Mason's parents, Joshua and Catherine (Stroup) Mason, removed to Wells County in 1847. Mr. Mason at present fills the office of Supervisor (Wells Co IN). He is a farmer of Jackson Township. He was born in Highland County, March 7, 1828. His wife was born in Huntington County, IN Jan 18, 1847. Address, Warren, Huntington Co. Indiana.
