Opal Jean Hicks, 68, of Brunswick, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Southeast Georgia Health System.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6-8PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 11 AM with Reverends Charles Smith and Jack Pickren officiating. Burial will follow at Palmetto Cemetery.

Opal was born May 4, 1944 to the late Wallace and Velma Kiff in Brunswick. In her earlier years, she was a well known local singer, performing on stage and on television with famous country and bluegrass artists such as "The Stanley Brothers" and "Jim and Jesse." She loved animals, gardening and spending time with her family. She especially loved being a grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Arco Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters: Jerene Nelson, Vonicha Holloway and Barbara Kiff.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years: Clyde Hicks; two sons: Kevin (Julie) Hicks and Randy (Teena) Hicks; four grandchildren: Kimberlie (Dale) Dixon, Joshua Hicks, Tyler Hicks, and Sarah Hicks; a great-grandchild: Abigail Dixon and many other relatives and friends.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society of Glynn County (4627 US 17 Hwy, Brunswick, Georgia, 31525 912-264-6246) or to Arco Baptist Church (3629 Treville Ave. Brunswick, Georgia 31520 912-264-8077)
