Sr. Jean Becker, OSF, (formerly S.M. Pauline) of Lower River Road, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012, at Stella Niagara. She was born Jean Catherine Beck in Buffalo, NY, on May 1, 1944, the daughter of the late Gerald J. and Irene M. (Tehaar) Becker.
After graduating from Bishop McMahon High School in 1962, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara and made her profession of vows on August 18, 1965. She received her Bachelors of Art from Rosary Hill College and her Masters Degrees from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, and from Wenton School of Theology in Cambridge, MA.
Sister Jean taught at the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart in Buffalo, NY, the Charleston Catholic High School in Charleston, WV. She was the Pastoral Minister at Queen of All Saints Parish in Lackawanna, NY, and at Most Precious Blood Parish in San Luis, CO. She was the Director of Leadership in the church program at D'Youville College and for the Sisters of St. Francis and most resent as a ESL teacher with BOCES. Sister Jean retired to Stella in October of 2011.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret (William) Manhard of Depew, NY; two aunts, Catherine David and Ann DelPrince; also many nieces and nephews
