PTE. WALTER A. MERRICK
SANDUSKY
Was born in Fremont Township, June 7, 1890, son of George and Emiline Merrick, attended the District school. His occupation was farming. He had one brother and two sisters: John; Mrs. Jacob Hagle and Mrs. W. Baker. As a Selective Service man he went to Camp Custer May 27, 1918. Embarked from Camp Mills N. Y. for Russia in July. Was killed in action October 14, 1918. He was a member of the 339th Infantry. He was shot in the breast and lived only a few minutes.
Walter's body was brought back to USA in 1919.
