Ernest Karl Buhring was born 14 April 1850 in Germany to George Buhring and his wife. They came to America when he was a child, farming near Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He had six brothers and two sisters.
He came to South Dakota at the age of 18 years, where he helped to survey in the Iroquois country; and in the winter, worked at the Caterach Hotel in Souix Falls, S.D. There he met and married Mary Augusta Putrah.
She was born 4 March 1852 near Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to Joseph and D.K. (Presio) Putrah. She moved to New York with her parents, three sisters and two brothers. They lived there for several years before moving to Wisconsin and later to Minnesota. In 1868, they moved to a farm near Canton, Minnehaha, S.D. Mary was a cook at the Caterach Hotel in Souix Falls.
Ernest and Mary had seven children, all born on their farm near Souix Falls. Later they moved to Arriba, Colorado, where they bought seven sections of land. Early in the year of 1919, Ernest & Mary moved to Tallahassee, Florida. Mary died 11 months later on 20 December 1919 (of Tuberculosis). Ernest died 6 February 1928. They are both buried at Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee.
Additional info from Judy: Later research was to clarify the surname of Margaret Mary Periso as Parazeau, a somewhat common French Canadian surname. Joseph Putrah and Margaret Mary Parazeau were married near Montreal, Canada.
