Her obituary:

MRS J W ARIAIL GOES TO REWARD
Mother of Prof J M Airail Dies at Home of Son-Body to Sumter

Mrs Carrie Hodges Ariail, wife of the Rev J W Arial of Bowman, died at the residence
of her son, Prof J W Ariail of Columbia College, at an early hour yesterday morning.
Mrs Ariail had been with her daughter in Charleston for treatment for some time and
her son brought her to Columbia about ten days ago. Mrs Ariail suffered a sinking
spell yesterday morning from which she never rallied.

Before her marriage she was Mrs Carrie E Hodges of Sumter. Her father was Capt G W
Hodges of Brownsville. Her mother was Miss Charlotte DeLorme Britton of Sumter.
Forty one years ago she was married to Mr Ariail and during this time she has lived
in various locations of the state. She was a woman with the ideals of the old
school, gentle, kind, unselfish and the announcement of her death will bring sorrow
to a host of friends throughout the state.

Besides her husband she is survived by the following children: Mrs Emma Ariail Ellis
of Charleston, Dr Cauthen Clyde Ariail of Greenville, the Rev Warren Galloway Ariail
of McClellanville, Robert Ariail of Mullins and Misses Nell Ariail and Rowena Ariail
of Bowman. She has large family connections in Sumter and Marlboro counties.

Mrs Ariail was born Mary 8, 1861, and was therefore 60 years of age at the time of
her death. All of the family were at the bedside when the end came with the
exception of Dr Ariail, who had left from his home Monday night, the Rev Warren G
Ariail, who was on his way here, and Miss Rowena Ariail, who was sick at her home in
Bowman.

The body will be carried to Sumter today leaving at 4:20 o'clock this afternoon and
the funeral services will be conducted there. The interment will take place in the
Sumter cemetery.

Dr J C Guilds and Dr R H Munson of Columbia College and Mayor W F Cleveland of
College Place will be among the pallbearers. The other pallbearers will be from
Sumter.
