Charles Gary Gardner, 78 of Marietta died on Monday, December 24, 2012.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Chapel in Marietta. Burial will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.

Gary was born in Monroe County, Georgia on June 12, 1934. He was the son of James Franklin Gardner, Sr. and Emma Grace Faircloth Gardner. He was in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Greenville, Mississippi. And he also served in the Tennessee Air National Guard. He joined Lockheed Martin in 1956 as a Flight Line Supervisor and transferred to Lockheed Aircraft in Palmdale, California. After a layoff he rejoined Lockheed and returned as a Flight Test Supervisor. He retired in 1995. He was a little league coach and an avid Georgia football fan. He spent ten years as the proud Captain of "Loose Change" – a 60 foot House Boat docked at Park Marina. He was known as "Mr. Fix It" because if it was broke he would repair it. He was a member of Samuel S. Lawrence Lodge 721 Kennesaw Mountain Shrine Club Yaarab Temple.

He was preceded by his late parents and brothers, James Franklin Gardner, Jr. and Donald Ray Gardner.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia Maie Gardner of Marietta, one brother, Wallace Howell Gardner & wife, Trina; one son, Charles James Gardner; daughter-in-law, Mickey of Wyoming, PA; one daughter, Esther Elizabeth "Beth" Barrett & son-in-law, Brian; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Breana Barrett, Morgan Leigh Gardner and Madison Kate Gardner and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shrine Children's Hospital, 400 Ponce Deleon NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28th at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta. www.mayeswarddobbins.com
