Modean Cannon passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 in the kind hands of Delaware Hospice and the staff of the Lofland Park Center, Seaford, De. "Dean," to her immediate family, was born in Webbers Falls, OK on 3/1/24 - the first child of George and Elizabeth (Capehart) Pearson. Her treasured, surviving siblings include Wayne, Lucy, Charles and Shirley—all presently residing in eastern OK. Greatly missed are her other siblings, Fay, Bill and Don. Dean grew up on the family farm during the brutal years of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression which clearly shaped, but did not define her life. "Mo," to many friends, left OK on the arm of Capt. Frank D. Cannon to be married on 12/1/45 in Seaford, DE-her home for the next 67+ years. Their children include F. D. "Dan" Cannon Jr., Anne Cannon Braniff and J. Roy Cannon of Seaford DE, Bishopville MD and Newark DE, respectively. Modean was a traditional (at that time) stay-at-home mother until family needs sent her to work. Then her business school training, work ethic and vivacious charm made her an extremely successful "secretary" at E.I . DuPont, until her retirement in 1985. Her foray into the 2-income family realm, well before its time, helped Modean and Frank send all their children to college, dote on their nine (9) grandchildren and three (3) great grandchildren, and travel to the far corners of the Earth during their retirement. While work and family were always the focus, Modean and Frank's lives were greatly enriched by many, significant, long-term friendships. Ann and Charlie Brown of Salisbury, MD were their perpetual, 40-year bridge "foes." In addition, virtually all of the Allen clan of Seaford (Warren and Doris, Charles and Mary Lib and Jack and Sally) were like Modean's brothers and sisters. Modean, also, deeply loved her other "daughter," Edie Kahler Wright of Seaford.Modean Cannon would surely want to be remembered as a most beautiful woman from Webber, a great mother to her children and grandchildren, a survivor of the Great Depression, a stubborn "Okie," and a world traveler with the love of her life and devoted husband, Frank Cannon.
