WAUTOMA -- Gaylon E. Bittick, age 82, of Wautoma, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.

He was born Dec. 29, 1921 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Oliver and Ivy (Reynolds) Bittick. He married the former Anna Frazer on August 11, 1952 in Rogers, Ark. She preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1995. Gaylon was united in marriage to Marilyn Carlson on June 21, 1997 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma. Gaylon served his country for four years in the Marine Corps during World War II serving in the South Pacific. After the war, he received his master's degree in education in Kansas. He was employed as an educator until 1969 when he moved to Wisconsin. Mr. Bittick was a middle school teacher and principal in the Westfield School District until his retirement in 1986. He was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma where he was confirmed in 1997. He belonged to the Waushara/Wautoma Senior Citizens, Neshkoro Lions Club, Waushara Chapter of AARP, Wolman-Minskey American Legion Post 317, and Wisconsin Retired Educators Association. Gaylon enjoyed spending time at the senior center with friends, family gatherings and taking bus trips with Marilyn.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn A. Bittick, Wautoma; two sons, James (Michelle) Bittick, Cedar Park, Texas, Glenn Bittick, Ripon; two stepchildren, Howard Kling, St. Paul., Minn., Lisa Kling, East Hartford, Conn.; five grandchildren, Heather (Norris) Crowe, Baraboo, Matthew McGavin (fianc/, Jessica), Charleston, S.C., Robyn McGavin, Ripon, Meghan McGavin, Portage, Patrick Flint, Reedsburg; four great-grandchildren, Macalister, Katy, Hannah, and Calvin Crowe; two brothers, Bob Bittick, Tulsa, Okla., and Ted Bittick, Kansas City, Mo. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cindy, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m. in Peace Lutheran Church, Wautoma with the Rev. John Roebke officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Wautoma Union Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma and on Saturday at the Church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials to Peace Lutheran Church or Waushara/Wautoma Senior Center would be appreciated.
