He was a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local 25 from 1938 until his death. He was also a business agent for Plumbers and Steamfitters from 1958 to 1968 and worked to set up the union insurance benefits that are still in place upon his death. He was a member of Mason Trio Lodge 57, Rock Island, IL, Knights Templar, Rock Island, IL, Blue Lodge, Rock Island, IL, and Kaaba Shrine, Iowa. He went through all chairs and became the head man of the Trio Lodge, State Chair of Illinois and the Midwest. In World War II, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Montana and California. He was also a member of the Quad Cities Cruisers.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, spouse and sister Doris Harriet Lindholme Fisher.
