Harley Johnson died on May 26, 2012 in Vancouver. He was born on Sept. 21, 1941 in Detroit, Mich. to Richard and Doris Johnson and later moved to Portland. He graduated from Benson High School, worked as a machinist, later trained in computer science and retired as a Sr. Software Engineer in 2003. He was previously married to Kathleen Fisher and had daughter, Debbie and sons, David and Dan (Dena). He married Sara Jackson on May 22, 1982 and was father to stepson, Chris Jackson and stepdaughter, Paige Jackson (Scott Viehouser). The couple moved to Vancouver in 2004 and had recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. Harley was a member of the Creative Metal Arts Guild, a member of Obukan Kendo Club and an honorary member of Ren Ma Kendo Dojo. He enjoyed bonsai and had been a member of Sakura Bonsai Club. He was an Amateur Radio Operator (KF7HJW) and member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). He loved logging hours talking to other amateur radio operators worldwide. Harley was preceded in death by his parents; and stepson, Chris Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Sara; daughters, Debbie and Paige; sons, David and Dan; sisters, Beverly Embree and Denny Leach (John); brother, Lindsey (Ronda); 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many close friends. Donations can be made to Ren Ma Kendo Dojo at 9044 SW 149th Avenue, Beaverton, OR 97007.
