Dr. Christian W. Aussenheimer, 88, formerly of North Grafton, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester.
He leaves his brother, Robert Aussenheimer of Bloomingdale, New Jersey, three nephews and a niece. His brother, John Aussenheimer, died in 1984.
Dr. Aussenheimer was born in Hackensack, N.J., son of Christian and Augusta (Schmidt) Aussenheimer, and has resided in the Worcester area since 1949.
He graduated from East Rutherford High School in New Jersey in 1942 and attended Hamilton College and Rutgers University. He graduated from Boston University School of Medicine in 1949. He served his internship at the former Memorial Hospital in Worcester.
Dr. Aussenheimer was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 through 1946. He returned to the Army as a captain in the Medical Corps during the Korean War, serving in West Germany from 1951 to 1954. After his discharge, he returned to Memorial Hospital to complete his medical residency.
Dr. Aussenheimer established a general medical practice in 1955 with an office in Westborough and maintained his practice there until his retirement in 1992. He served on the staffs of the former Memorial and Hahnemann hospitals in Worcester. He was also the school physician at Nipmuc Regional School in Mendon and the plant physician at Bay State Abrasives Co. in Westborough for many years.
He was a member of the Worcester District and Massachusetts medical societies, and the American Medical Association.
The funeral service was held Saturday, December 22 in the First Presbyterian Church in Carlstadt, N.J. Burial with military honors was in Berry Lawn-Charlestown Cemetery in Carlstadt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, 457 Division Ave., Carlstadt, NJ 07072, the Carlstadt Historical Society, 723 6th St., Carlstadt, NJ 07072, or the charity of one's choice .
