Howard Daniel "Boone" Payne Jr., 53, of Cabin Creek died April 5, 2010, as a result of the mining accident at the Upper Big Branch Coal Mine in Raleigh County. Boone worked for Massey Energy at the Upper Big Branch Mine for the past 12 years and was a member of the UMWA prior to that. He was also a member of Charleston Moose Lodge 1444 and loved to hunt, fish and play basketball. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Preceding him in death were his mother, Bertha Branham Payne; and granddaughter, Hannah Stanley. Surviving are his son, Jason Payne I and his wife, Tiffany, of Marmet; daughter, Erica Stanley and husband, Jeremy, of Marmet; father, Howard Daniel Payne Sr. of Belle; sisters, Shirley Whitt and husband, Jack, of Charleston and Sherry Keeney and husband, Fred, of Charleston; girlfriend, Bobbie Gee-Pauley; grandchildren, Marissa and Jayden Stanley, River and Jason Payne II, Brennan Young, Chloe Hall and Sky and Tyler Sovine; nieces, April Amburgey, Ashley Whitt; nephews, Josh Whitt and wife, Amy, and Craig Keeney; great-niece, Natalie Whitt; great-nephew, Rece Amburgey; and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Sharon Church of God, Cabin Creek, with Chaplin Mike Jarrett and brother-in-law, Jack Whitt, officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time at the church on Saturday. Fidler & Frame Funeral Home, Belle, is in charge of the arrangements.
