When John arrived in Vietnam 22 November 1969, he was assigned to HHC, 1st Battalion, 12th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division, USARV. John died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest from hostile rifle fire, when the company made an incursion into Cambodia while fighting against hostile forces.
Survived by his mother, Ann S Abbatemarco of Hackensack, New Jersey, his brother, Charles Abbatemarco Jr and 2 sisters, Rosa Rinaldi and Mary Glover.
His father died in 1959.
