William Earl Chittum, 66, of Buena Vista died Tuesday, April 30, 1996, of a heart attack in Washington, D.C., while participating with other Rockbridge area church goers in the Washington for Jesus Rally.

He was born March 19, 1930, in Rockbridge County, son of the late Robert Hardy Chittum and Gracie Mae Ramsey Chittum. He was married to Hallie Clark Chittum.

He was a member of Lexington Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a World War II veteran and was a retired trucker for Advanced Drainage Systems. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Randolph Paul Chittum of Buena Vista and Rodney L. Chittum, of Belmont, NC; three sisters, and eight grandchildren.

The funeral was held Saturday at Lomax Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ballard Shepard. Burial followed at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
