Patti was my lifelong best friend. She was also a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, mother and wife. She worked hard all of her life to help provide for her family.
On a Sunday afternoon in July 1990 she took her 9 year old son and 7 year old daughter fishing, while her husband stayed home to do some work around the house.
Patti and her kids returned to their car which was parked well off of the road in a rural Maine town, and while entering the car they were side swiped by an elderly driver. 7 year old Sara was hit first, thrown and killed instantly. Patti was hit also and in critical condition never regaining consciousness. 9 year old Seth was the only witness to the horrific accident. The elderly woman that killed them, did not even stop. She was apprehended later by the police and claimed no involvement, nor recollection of the accident due to her dementia.
Patti survived in a semi coma until 1996 when finally she was able to join Sara in heaven. Patti and Sara are buried side by side in Augusta Me. I visit them often, and will always be their friend.
