LaPreal Riddle Abel passed away at home Friday, June 27, 1997, of a massive heart coronary. Her 80th birthday would have been celebrated in July. LaPreal was the seventh child to be born in a family of nine children. The family made their home in Escalante, Garfield county, Utah, the day was July 17, 1917 her parents were Edgar J. and Cecilia Porter Riddle.LaPreal was raised and educated in this familiar town of her birthplace. She graduated from high school, May 29, 1936, and from L.D.S. Seminary, May 27, 1934.
Morris Lester Abel and LaPreal Riddle were married in Panguitch, Utah on January 19, 1938. On Nov. 9, 1979, they were sealed in the Logan Temple. LaPreal and Abe, lovingly called Mom and Papa Abe, moved to Logan in 1948. They had eight children. Abe died on Nov. 7, 1977.
LaPreal was a member of the LDS Church. Ahe worked in varous church positions and she enjoyed attending the temple and serving therein. She worked in the PTA while her children were growing. She enjoyed being the grandmother of Beta Chi. She helped organize the Utah Alliance of Mentally III (AMI) in 1985.
She had been the owner operator of LaPreal's Beauty Salon since 1961. She had many friends resulting from her years in the beauty shop.
Her beloved son, Randy L. Abel died on June 14, 1996.
She is survived by three daughters; four sons; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her children are Bette and Doug Follette of Bountiful; Joe and Daureen Abel of North Salt Lake; Mary and David Saunders of Layton; Joy and Jerry Hill of Spanish Fork; David and Marsha Abel of Las Vegas, Nev.; Rick and Leigh Abel of Bountiful and Mike and Cindy Abel of Mesa, Ariz.
She is also survived by one sister, Drexel Chidester of Milford, Utah; and three half sisters and four half brothers, Oma Selley; Loa Long; Nancy huffington; Dale Riddle; Burr Riddle; Dern Riddle, Cal Riddle. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son; her parents; four sisters; four brothers and one half brother.
