Roland Carlson, 81, a resident of Taunton died March 21, 2011 at Morton Hospital. He was born on April 27, 1929 in New Milford, CT the son of Carl E and Ruth (Hellstrand) Carlson. He grew up in Pawtucket RI where he graduated from East High school in 1947. After high school he joined the Navy in 1947 and served as a Machinists Mate General Fireman in the Korean War and then the reserves until 1955. In the early 1950's into the 1990's he volunteered for the American Red Cross for both the States of RI and MA teaching courses in first aid, swimming, life saving, CPR, canoeing and water safety.

He loved being on the water and being around boats sailing or working on them and being with his family doing all kinds of activities with them. He was a dedicated and hard worker throughout his life and held a full time and a part time job at the same time never wanting to be idle. He worked as an installer and pipe fitter for the Blackstone Valley Gas & Electric Company in RI and a tractor trailer driver for many companies including Roadway, First National Stores, and A& P Market. He also worked as a pipe fitter for Texas Instruments in Attleboro, MA until his retirement in 1993. He worked part time for Davies Tree Service in RI and for Wells Fargo in Easton and the AMSAR Armored Service Co in Attleboro and Manheim American Auto Auction in No. Dighton. While living in Attleboro he was a member of the Immanual Lutheran Church and then the Memorial United Methodist Church after moving to Taunton 30 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Muriel Joan (Isidorio) Carlson, two daughters, Kirstin Hanlon of Litchfield, ME., and Karlynn Carlson of Ludlow, MA., a stepson, Frank Weir of Shrewsbury, VT, a stepdaughter, Dawn Paulo, of Somerset MA, four grandchildren, Emma Stewart of Gulfport, MS, David Hanlon, Jr. of Litchfield, ME, and Samantha and Lisa Paulo of Somerset, MA.
