Kathryn A. "Kathy" Conkle, 61 passed away on November 28, 2012 at her residence in Cornelius, N.C., with her loving husband, Kerwin, and the family shepherd, Hunter and mother, Martha at her bedside.

She was preceded in death by her father, John C. Conkle, grandparents, Roscoe and Alice Conkle, Louis and Katherine Fon, aunt, Dorothy (Fon) Hill, uncle, Henry J. Fon and father in law, Dale Le Claire.

She grew up in the Speedway area and attended the Speedway Schools. She was with the FBI in the Records Department for one year, then with Prudential Insurance Company, before coming into the Conkle Family Business, a third generation. Later, she became manager of the firm for many years, then Vice President and Co-Owner of the Conkle Funeral Home, Inc.

She loved sports and was in competitive swimming from age seven through High School age. She was an avid fan of the New York Yankees; favorites in football were the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys. She also attended many races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and NASCAR, favorite drivers A.J. Foyt and Dale Earnhardt Sr.

She and her husband enjoyed taking rides on their Harley and boating on Lake Norman where she enjoyed reading and sun bathing. She baked cakes, pies and cookies and gave surprise parties for family and friends and made sure the employees had a birthday cake on their designated day, tradition still continues. Kathy was a compassionate and generous person, especially for those in need.

She is survived by her loving husband Kerwin "Kurly" Le Claire, the family shepherd, Hunter, mother, Martha (Fon) Conkle, sister, Alice Bartenbach, nephew, Steven Bartenbach, niece, Holly Bartenbach, great nephew, Bryce Bartenbach, aunt, Clara (Fon) Koehl, uncle, Robert Fon, mother in law, Ann Le Claire, sister in law, Dena, step-son, Brandon Le Claire and several cousins.
